When it comes to the analytical side of the game, the Anaheim Ducks aren’t necessarily tearing up the National Hockey League. According to stats.hockeyanalysis.com, they’re 17th in the league at Corsi in five-on-five situations. They score plenty of goals, but they also give up plenty of goals, too.

Yet, now 40 games into their season, they sit atop the league standings with 25 wins and 56 points.

They were victorious Friday over the St. Louis Blues, as Matt Beleskey scored the winning goal just past the midway mark of the third period. That’s goal No. 16 on the season for Beleskey, whose previous career in goals was 11 back in 2009-10.

Against the Blues, the Ducks were outshot, especially in the second period, yet managed to escape in a tied game going into the third period. Enter Beleskey, and his heroics. Anaheim was also able to solve 42-year-old goalie Martin Brodeur, who has allowed four or more goals in three of his seven appearance since joining the Blues.

“We find a way. We’re used to this situation. When we need to do it, we find a way,” said Ducks’ head coach Bruce Boudreau, as per the club’s Twitter account.
