Teuvo Teravainen is on his way back to the National Hockey League.

The Chicago Blackhawks announced Friday they recalled the 20-year-old center from the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League. The call comes with Teravainen, Chicago’s first-round pick in the 2012 NHL Draft, having put up six goals and 23 points in 33 games for the IceHogs this season.

Teravainen appeared in three games for the Blackhawks last season. He didn’t register a point, and didn’t register a shot on goal until his final game, when he had four in almost 17 minutes of ice time against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

This roster move comes a day after forward Kris Versteeg suffered an injury blocking a shot during the Winter Classic.

The Blackhawks, fresh off a loss to the Washington Capitals in the Winter Classic, don’t play again until Sunday, when they host the Dallas Stars.
