MacTavish: Leon Draisaitl’s ‘status as an Edmonton Oiler hasn’t changed’

Leon Draisaitl is in the Edmonton Oilers lineup against the L.A. Kings tonight, but his time in the NHL this season could be coming to an end.

According to a report from Mark Spector of Sportsnet, Draisaitl, taken third overall in the 2014 NHL Draft, could be sent back to the Western Hockey League by Saturday.

During Tuesday’s game between the Oilers and Kings, Edmonton’s general manager Craig MacTavish addressed the report.

“I can’t say anything really about Leon other than his status as an Edmonton Oiler hasn’t changed. There’s nothing further to report on Leon,” said MacTavish during the Oilers’ broadcast on Sportsnet.

“The only thing I will say is every decision we make in regards to Leon is made with the intention that it is the best for his development.”
