Dany Heatley’s frustrating season took another bad turn on Monday, as the Ducks placed the veteran winger on waivers.

Heatley, 33, signed with the Ducks this summer on a relatively low-risk deal -- one year at $1M -- and was thought to be a potential linemate for Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf.

But it never materialized.

Heatley suffered a groin injury during the preseason and has spent almost the entire campaign on IR, save a four-game stretch in late October/early November. He quietly underwent surgery in mid-November and had a rehab stint in AHL Norfolk, then played in two games -- losses to Ottawa and Arizona -- before getting waived.

The two-time 50-goal scorer could get another look from a team needing scoring help on the wing, but it seems unlikely given his wonky groin and sharp decline over the last few seasons.
