Well, that didn’t take long.
The Winnipeg Jets, who we learned today would be without all four of their top-four defensemen until the New Year, have acquired veteran blue-liner Jay Harrison from Carolina in return for a sixth-round pick in the 2015 draft.
Harrison has played 20 games for the Hurricanes this season, scoring once with three assists while logging 16:30 of ice time per game. The 32-year-old is a known commodity for Jets coach Paul Maurice, who coached Harrison in Carolina.
“We thank Jay for his time with the Hurricanes,” said Carolina GM Ron Francis in a release. “He represented our organization with class and we wish him and his family nothing but the best.”
Harrison is signed through next season for a cap hit of $1.5 million.
The sixth-round pick was previously acquired by Winnipeg from Ottawa.
Update:
Told that Carolina is retaining 30 percent of Jay Harrison's salary in trade with Winnipeg.
