The Columbus Blue Jackets have had to work a little overtime this month, but it’s been worth it.

They have now won seven in a row, with five of those victories coming by way of overtime or the shootout. On Tuesday, they managed to stymie the Detroit Red Wings by a final score of 1-0 in a deciding breakaway competition.

Boone Jenner scored the winner and goalie Sergei Bobrovsky made 30 saves. It’s been a special month of December for Columbus, a team that not long ago was in the running for the Connor McDavid sweepstakes.

The Blue Jackets have since inched their way up the standings, collecting 14 of a possible 14 points so far this month. They now sit fifth in the Metropolitan Division, only four points back of the New York Rangers.

Meanwhile, the Red Wings have suddenly lost four in a row.
