Rookie Scott Laughton scored his first NHL goal and Steve Mason made 25 saves as the Philadelphia Flyers cruised to a 5-1 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes Saturday afternoon.
Laughton was playing in his 18th career NHL game and had three assists entering the contest.
“Pretty big weight lifted off my shoulders,” Laughton said post-game. “It feels really good. I’m pretty excited.”

Sean Couturier opened the scoring 53 seconds into the first period with his seventh of the season.
Wayne Simmonds netted the eventual game winner at 11:27 of the opening frame, his 13th of the season.
The Flyers have now won back-to-back and three of four.
Jakub Voracek and Michael Raffl had the other Flyers goals.
Eric Staal had the lone Canes goal while Anton Khudobin made 18 saves in the loss.
Carolina has now lost five straight.
