Now just barely clinging to playoff spot, Flames hope losing streak ends tonight in Pittsburgh

The Calgary Flames got a taste of their own medicine last night in Buffalo, where they outshot the Sabres, 45-19, but lost the game, 4-3.

Despite dominating possession-wise, the result dealt Calgary a third straight defeat, with tough road games coming up in Pittsburgh tonight and Chicago Sunday.

“We seem to play a good game, but we killed ourselves with those goals we gave up tonight,” captain Mark Giordano said, per the Calgary Herald. “We (must) cut (the losing streak) off now, though. We didn’t lose two in a row there for a long time, but now it’s three.

“We have to find a way to get points next game and move on from there.”

The Flames have won 10 games this season where they’ve been outshot by the opposition, including one against Chicago where the margin was 50-18 against. So perhaps they were due for it to go the other way.

Regardless, if Calgary loses in regulation tonight in Pittsburgh and the Kings win in Montreal, the Flames will fall from third in the Pacific Division into the second wild card spot, with San Jose and Minnesota breathing down their necks.
