Damien Brunner’s time with the New Jersey Devils is officially done -- and his time in the NHL might be over as well.

On Friday, Brunner and the Devils mutually terminated his contract, a move that came after the Swiss winger pass through both regular and unconditional waivers unclaimed.

Brunner, 28, scored two goals and seven points in 17 games this season prior to getting waived on Dec. 5, and averaged 15:09 TOI per game.

The Swiss winger had been and out of the Devils lineup this year, never seeming to fully earn the trust of head coach Peter DeBoer. It’s likely New Jersey was expecting much more from Brunner after inking him to a two-year, $5 million contract last season.

According to the Bergen Record, Brunner is leaving $1.7 on the table by walking away from his NHL contract.

UPDATE: Brunner has signed with HC Lugano of the Swiss league, the club announced.
