Jacob de la Rose, the last player cut from Montreal’s training camp this fall, will be loaned to Team Sweden for the upcoming World Junior tournament, the team announced on Thursday.

De la Rose, 19, was the 34th overall selection at the 2013 NHL Entry Draft and has spent all of this season in AHL Hamilton, where he’s posted three goals and five points in 25 games. De la Rose was also a member of Sweden’s silver medal-winning squad from last year’s Worlds, during which he scored six points in seven games and finished with a plus-3 rating.

As mentioned above, de la Rose really turned heads during Montreal’s exhibition campaign and nearly made the team, which was an unexpected development. He outlasted a pair of other highly-touted prospects -- Christian Thomas and Sven Andrighetto -- which speaks volumes, considering Andrighetto is now up with the big club and has scored two points in his first two NHL games.
