The groin ailment that’s plagued Semyon Varlamov continued to be an issue on Tuesday, a Avs head coach Patrick Roy said his No. 1 goalie would miss “a couple of weeks” following another setback.
Varlamov, who’s already been on IR twice this season, tweaked his groin during Monday’s practice and exited quickly. Shortly thereafter, the Avs announced that Calvin Pickard would be recalled from AHL Lake Erie, adding that Varlamov was definitely out of tonight’s game against Nashville.
Now, it’s unclear exactly when last year’s Vezina runner-up will get back in the mix.
If Varlamov sits two weeks, he’d be eligible for return on Dec. 23 -- the last night of games on the NHL schedule prior to the Christmas break. Colorado wouldn’t play again until a home date against Chicago on the 27th, so that could be a date to circle for a potential return... but, if Varlamov is out that long, he’s going to miss seven games.
