There will come a time when Jaromir Jagr retires from playing hockey, though he’s certainly defying the aging process accompanied with the game.

He already is and will be both celebrated for the longevity and point production of his career. We’ll miss the skill and strength he continues to possess even into his 40s. On Monday, the 42-year-old Jagr scored once and added an assist as the New Jersey Devils defeated the Carolina Hurricanes 2-1.

Two points for the Devils. Two more points for Jagr, who moves past Marcel Dionne for fifth all-time in points with 1,772. He accomplished the feat in his 1,500th career NHL game.

Just another record for No. 68, who began his career with the Pittsburgh Penguins all the way back in 1990.

“It’s funny, we all grew up being fans of him. To think of the numbers, it’s just incredible for hockey and for him,” said Devils forward Scott Gomez, as per the club’s Twitter account.

Apparently Jagr wasn’t feeling all that great prior to the game Monday.

“I didn’t feel very well,” said Jagr, as per Fire & Ice and The Record. “Actually, I told the coach about 4 o’ clock, I saw him and I told him, ‘Don’t play me a lot. I don’t feel very well. I have no energy. I feel weird.’ But something changed one hour to go. I started to feel more excited about the game.”

Devils forward Dainius Zubrus left the game early in the third period with a cut on the left leg, as per Tom Gulitti of The Record.
