Jay Feaster isn’t the GM of the Calgary Flames anymore, so he’s free to join the dog pile on top of the free-falling Edmonton Oilers.
Last night, for example, he tweeted this:
YEHHHH BABY!!! You can put it in the LOSS column, #Oilers! Entire time I was in Calgary all I heard was how far ahead they were of #Flames
— Jay Feaster (@therealjfeaster) December 4, 2014
While that tweet got him lots of attention, and also a few more followers, he insists it wasn’t done maliciously.
“I was just having some fun,” Feaster told ESPN.com. “It’s my personal twitter account and I was just having fun. I was there four years in Calgary but it did not take me four days to get tuned into the Battle of Alberta. Obviously, people get very wound up and upset about things. But it wasn’t done in a hurtful or spiteful way. I’m just having some fun with it.”
Maybe so, but we’d wager it wasn’t so fun during his stint in Calgary when almost everyone was lambasting the Flames for failing to accept reality and enter a rebuild. You know, like the savvy Oilers to the north, who were totally going to be a force in the NHL for years to come.
Today, however, it’s the Flames who have the bright long-term future, not to mention a pretty bright present. Calgary’s prospect cupboard is stocked with blue-chippers, while some are actually wondering if the Oilers need to rebuild all over again.
To be sure, Feaster did eventually accept the reality of the situation in Calgary and admit, “We are rebuilding.”
Also, nobody’s really saying today that the Oilers’ strategy was wrong; it’s the execution that’s being criticized.
At any rate, the most important thing is that these cookies look good:
