From the Winnipeg Free Press:

For the record, Evander Kane said the latest picture -- the one that showed him doing push-ups with stacks of cash on his back, the Las Vegas skyline in the background -- was taken “a while ago.”

Still, reporters wanted to know, why post another Vegas pic after the backlash that followed the first Vegas pic? Why court the attention? Why create a story?

Kane replied, “That’s why people follow you on Instagram and social media is to see what you’ve done or what you’re up to, and I think that’s the reason people are tuning in to see what you post. ... It’s all in good fun.”

Kane’s coach, Paul Maurice, didn’t seem to care either way, and brushed off the suggestion it could be an unwelcome distraction for his team.

“This is funny I guess to some, it’s not funny to others,” said Maurice. “Everybody will view it the way they want to view it.”

Maurice’s bottom line?

“Evander Kane comes to training camp in phenomenal shape, he works really hard every day, and he’s doing what we ask him to do on the ice. ... Whatever thing that you enjoy doing on your own time is completely up to you.”
