The Anaheim Ducks revealed today that defenseman Francois Beauchemin has a broken finger and blueliner Clayton Stoner has the mumps. They acquired Eric Brewer from Tampa Bay to help fill the void, but he wasn’t available in time for Friday’s 4-1 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks.
Anaheim was outplayed by Chicago for most of this contest, which led to the Ducks squandering a good showing from goaltender Frederik Andersen. The netminder stopped 34 of 37 shots.
“Freddy played a great game, we just didn’t execute tonight,” Anaheim’s Ryan Kesler said, per the team’s Twitter feed. As is often the case with players, he didn’t want to blame this loss on the team’s injuries.
Chicago was led by forwards Brad Richards and Andrew Shaw. They scored the opening two goals of the game and each of them added an assist later in the contest.

Patrick Kane provided the Blackhawks with an insurance goal in the third period and helped himself to an empty-netter with a minute left in the game. With that, Kane has now recorded two or more points in five of his last six contests.
