From the Blues:
President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today the club has recalled goaltender Jordan Binnington from their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, Chicago Wolves, under emergency conditions. Brian Elliott, who left last night’s game [vs. Ottawa] in the second period, will be sidelined with a lower-body injury.
Binnington, 21, has made nine appearances for the Wolves this season, posting a 6-2-1 record, while his 1.89 goals against average ranks third and his .925 save percentage is 12th in the AHL overall.
Elliott has split time with Jake Allen in the Blues’ goal this season, though is out slightly ahead in terms of appearances (14, to Allen’s nine).
But it was Allen who came on in relief of Elliott last night (losing in the shootout), and it’s Allen who will now handle starting duties — a situation that’s worth monitoring. The 24-year-old is coming off a tremendous campaign in the AHL, going 33-16-3 with a 2.03 GAA and .928 save percentage en route to winning goalie of the year, and has been solid in the timeshare this season with a 6-2-1 record, .920 save percentage and 2.12 GAA.
As for future starts, St. Louis next plays on Friday against Edmonton, then Saturday in Minnesota.
