The Calgary Flames put veteran forward Devin Setoguchi on waivers Wednesday.

Setoguchi, 27, was deemed expendable after appearing in just 12 games this year, registering no points with a minus-7 rating while averaging just over 12 minutes per game. He last played in Saturday’s 5-4 shootout win over the Devils, playing 7:35 (only rookie forward Corban Knight played less.)

A former first-round pick (eighth overall, 2005) and 30-goal scorer, Setoguchi’s career has been in a tailspin recently. He’s played for four different organizations over the last five years -- San Jose, Minnesota, Winnipeg and Calgary -- and has seen his production steadily decrease.

Should Setoguchi go unclaimed, he’ll likely be off to Calgary’s AHL affiliate in Adirondack. He’s on a one-year, $750,000 deal, so the Flames would be freed of his cap hit.
