Ryan Garbutt caught Taylor Hall with a knee-on-knee hit at center ice late in the third period Tuesday night.

Hall, who has had his share of knee injuries in his young career, was able to skate away unharmed. Garbutt received a minor penalty for tripping on the play.

A rise in knee-on-knee hits is something NHL Senior Vice President of Player Safety Stephane Quintal discussed with general managers at last week’s meeting in Toronto.

Garbutt could be hearing from Quintal as he is a repeat offender.

Last season he was fined for a spear on Ducks’ forward Corey Perry. During the lockout-shortened 2012-13 season, Garbutt was suspended five games for his hit on Dustin Penner.
