McDavid thinks dropping the gloves ‘was the right thing to do’

Even after breaking his hand and jeopardizing his chance to participate in the upcoming World Juniors tournament, top prospect Connor McDavid doesn’t regret dropping the gloves to fight Bryson Cianfrone in an OHL game earlier this month.

“I think it was the right thing to do. I would rather fight than turtle or anything like that,” McDavid said, per GoErie.com. “There’s not a whole lot you can do in that situation. (Cianfrone) dropped his gloves. I’m not just going to sit there and take punches.”

As you no doubt recall, the McDavid fight/injury generated a wide array of opinions, from one prominent columnist/TV analyst who lamented “a society that allows unpaid teenage boys to fight with their bare knuckles for the amusement of paying customers,” to a veteran NHLer who thought McDavid “did a great job” in sticking up for himself.
