The Detroit Red Wings have recalled center Stephen Weiss from his conditioning loan with the American Hockey League’s Grand Rapids Griffins the club announced Sunday.

Weiss appeared in two games with the Griffins this weekend scoring twice.

It was his second conditioning assignment this season. Weiss injured his groin during a stint in the AHL in October.

Injuries has limited 31-year-old forward to just 27 games with the Red Wings after he signed a five-year, $24.5 million contract in the summer of 2013.

In 681 career NHL games with Florida and Detroit, Weiss has 147 goals and 398 points.

Originally a first round pick of the Florida Panthers (fourth overall) in 2001, Weiss has appeared in just one game for the Red Wings this season. He has also been healthy scratched by coach Mike Babcock.

Detroit returns to action on Monday when they play host to the Ottawa Senators.
