The Buffalo Sabres have placed defenseman Josh Gorges on injured reserve and recalled goaltender Nathan Lieuwen the club announced Wednesday.

Gorges suffered a knee injury Nov. 11 against the St. Louis Blues.

Lieuwen has been recalled from the American Hockey League’s Rochester Americans after Michal Neuvirth left Tuesday night’s game with a lower body injury.

Lieuwen is 3-4-0 in 10 AHL games this season to go along with a 3.53 goals-against average and an .876 save percentage. The 23-year-old was 1-4-0 in seven games with the Sabres last season recording a 2.98 goals-against average and .906 save percentage.

Wednesday is the second time in his young career that Lieuwen has been recalled.

The Sabres are scheduled to resume action on Friday when the New York Rangers visit.
