Rangers release Kaberle from AHL PTO (Update)

After two games, Tomas Kaberle has been released from his professional tryout with the AHL’s Hartford Wolfpack.

Kaberle, 36, played in a pair of games for the Rangers’ minor-league affiliate over the weekend, registering two assists and four shots on goal -- with a minus-3 rating.

It’s unclear exactly what this transaction means for the veteran defenseman. Out in L.A., the Kings signed Jamie McBain after releasing him from his PTO with AHL Manchester (what’s more, the Bergen Record speculates that Kaberle is “Broadway Bound”). That said, the Rangers are finally getting healthy on defense and now only have one blueliner on IR -- Ryan McDonagh -- meaning they may no longer need the depth that Kaberle would’ve provided.

Update:

Tomas Kaberle has rejected Rangers’ offer to remain in Hartford on new PTO and is thus an unrestricted free agent. #NYR
