The Montreal Canadiens have been the best team in the league so far this season and tonight was no exception as they cruised to a 4-1 victory over the Detroit Red Wings.

Brandon Prust opened up the scoring early in the second period by collecting a loose puck trickling to the Red Wings’ zone at the end of a Detroit power-play and chipping it past goaltender Jimmy Howard. It was his first goal of the campaign.

P.K. Subban, Tomas Plekanec, and Brendan Gallagher contributed the Canadiens’ other three goals. Canadiens goaltender Dustin Tokarski stopped 28 of 29 shots to continue his superb work as Carey Price’s understudy this season. Tokarski had a shutout going into the third period, but it was spoiled by Riley Sheahan.

This was Montreal’s sixth straight victory, bringing them up to a league-leading 14-4-1 this season. It was also just the second time since Oct. 25 that Detroit has failed to earn at least a consolation point in a contest.
