The Minnesota Wild, St. Louis Blues, and Anaheim Ducks have had players diagnosed with the mumps in recent weeks and the Winnipeg Jets don’t want to join that list. With upcoming games against the Wild and the Blues, Winnipeg is taking some extra precautions, per the Winnipeg Free Press.
Some examples including taking a portable ozone machine with the Jets for their game in Minnesota on Sunday. That will allow them to disinfect their dressing room. The team will also monitor the sharing of towels and water bottles.
After their game in Minnesota, they’ll return to Winnipeg where the players and staff will be given the option to be vaccinated. The Wild were recently offered mumps shots too, per the Star Tribune.
The league is also helping stop the spread of the disease through its infection control subcommittee, which shares information with all the teams, including what steps they can take to contain the outbreak.
Currently Anaheim’s Corey Perry and Francois Beauchemin as well as Minnesota’s Marco Scandella and Jonas Brodin are sidelined with the mumps. When a person gets the mumps, it can take a couple weeks before they develop symptoms.
