Sabres’ forward Nicolas Deslauriers received a match penalty for spearing during the third period of Buffalo’s 6-1 loss to the St. Louis Blues Tuesday night.
Deslauriers received the penalty for his spear on Blues’ forward Vladimir Tarasenko.

Deslauriers will likely be hearing from the NHL’s Department of Player Safety as a result of the match penalty. NHL Rule 21.2 reads:
In addition to the match penalty, the player shall be automatically suspended from further competition until the Commissioner has ruled on the issue.
Rangers defenseman John Moore was assessed a match penalty for his hit on Minnesota’s Erik Haula last month and received a five game suspension.
