Pens recall ‘difference-maker’ Bennett from AHL

After a brief stint in which he dominated AHL competition, Beau Bennett is on his way back to the bigs.

Pittsburgh recalled Bennett from Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday, on the heels of a weekend set in which the Baby Pens scored eight goals over two games with Bennett in the lineup -- five of which he assisted on.
“He was a difference maker. That’s what you want from Beau,” WBS head coach John Hynes said, per the Tribune-Review. “That’s what he has to be at this level, and he has to translate that to the National Hockey League level.”

Bennett, Pittsburgh’s first-round pick (20th overall) at the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, has shown flashes of his talent over the past few seasons but has been derailed by a myriad of injuries. A wrist ailment dogged him last season and he’s yet to play for the parent club this year because of a knee injury -- one that sent him to Wilkes-Barre on a conditioning assignment.

It’ll be interesting to see when Pittsburgh opts to put Bennett in the lineup. The team is rolling, having won seven straight while outscoring opponents 33-8, so head coach Mike Johnston might be loathe to change up the mix.
