With at least two points in each of his last four games, Mark Giordano can tie Al MacInnis’s record for most consecutive multi-point games by a Flames defenseman when Calgary plays tonight in Carolina.

“That’s pretty cool. We all know what type of player (MacInnis) was,” Giordano said, per the Calgary Sun. “It always feels great to contribute. I try to contribute in as many ways as possible. The points aren’t always going to come, and the goals aren’t always going to come, so you try to stay consistent. Sometimes, you go on stretches where you get some second assists, and you get some lucky bounces, and it goes in.

“You try to enjoy it while it lasts and push to keep it going.”

So too do the Flames, off to a surprising 9-5-2 start, hope to “keep it going.” Their possession stats rank among the worst in the NHL, suggesting they won’t. But with the offensive production they’re getting from their blue-liners (Gioradno leads all NHL d-men with 18 points, while T.J. Brodie has 14 and Dennis Wideman 9), combined with the solid play of starting goalie Jonas Hiller (.931 SV%) and additional scoring from rookie Johnny Gaudreau (3G, 9A), for now at least they find themselves third in the tough Pacific Division.

Calgary announced this morning that forward Max Reinhart has been recalled from AHL Adirondack, while forward Michael Ferland (concussion) has been placed on injured reserve.
