Former University of New Hampshire standout Trevor van Riemsdyk scored his first NHL goal in the first period of Sunday’s game against the San Jose Sharks.
The Chicago Blackhawks defenseman fired a one-timer off of an offensive zone faceoff that beat goaltender Antti Niemi:
Fellow blueliners Brent Seabrook and Niklas Hjalmarsson each found the back of the net within 2:34 minutes of van Riemsdyk’s goal to give Chicago an early 3-0 lead.
van Riemsdyk is playing in his 15th career contest. The 23-year-old is the younger brother of Toronto Maple Leafs forward James van Riemsdyk, who as it happens has also scored tonight:
