Anaheim Ducks forward Ryan Kesler was selected by the Vancouver Canucks in the first round of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. Tonight he’ll play against them for the first time.
“You have friends over there,” Kelser said, per the Orange County Register. “But there’s going to be some bragging rights. It’s two points that we really need, but for me it’s more personal.”
The 30-year-old forward didn’t leave Vancouver under the best of circumstances. He wanted to be traded in part because he felt the Canucks were “years away from being a contender.” He also felt that certain members of the Vancouver media made up stories and threw people under the bus.
Although Vancouver finished 36-35-11 last season, the Canucks have bounced back in 2014-15. They are 10-5-0, putting them just behind the 10-3-2 Ducks.
