Colorado Avalanche star 19-year-old forward Nathan MacKinnon was given a major penalty for boarding after hitting Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Luke Schenn from behind into the end boards.
The incident occurred late in the first period of Saturday’s game. Schenn was racing back to retrieve the puck, which had settled along the end boards. MacKinnon, in on the forecheck, put his hands on the back of Schenn and there was a subtle push from behind.
As per Tim Panaccio of CSN Philadelphia, Schenn will not return to the game due to an upper-body injury.
Schenn lost his balance and went violently into the boards. He was down on the ice for a moment, before getting back to his feet in obvious pain. He hunched over on his way off the ice, appearing to favor his left shoulder.
Avalanche coach Patrick Roy was furious with the call, giving the officials a piece of his mind as MacKinnon left the ice for the dressing room. The Flyers scored twice with the power play.
MacKinnon barely touched him. It wasnt the usual bad boarding you see
