Dustin Brown: Kings have to be ‘smart aggressive’ against Sedin twins

The Vancouver Canucks are now halfway through their four-game road trip, and a third of the way through the California portion.

So far, so good after two wins to start the trip.

They now face the defending Stanley Cup champion L.A. Kings, a team that has haunted the Canucks since the spring of 2012, in the final game of Saturday’s schedule.

It’s a big test for the revamped Canucks, one of the surprises so far, only two points back of the Anaheim Ducks for top spot in the Western Conference at this early juncture of the season.

The Sedin twins, Daniel and Henrik, endured an almost endless struggle offensively last season under then-head coach John Tortorella, but seem to be on quite the rebound for the 2014-15 campaign with Tortorella fired in the spring and Willie Desjardins now running the bench.

At the age of 34, Daniel is marching along at a point-per-game average, with 14 points in 14 games. Henrik, the captain, has 15 points in 14 games.

So you can understand that they’ll be a focus for the Kings in the first meeting of the season between these Pacific Division clubs.

“You give most good players that time and space and they’re going to make you pay for it,” Kings’ captain Dustin Brown told The Province.
