‘Nobody’s panicking’ on the Habs

The day after his team’s disappointing effort versus Calgary, Montreal coach Michel Therrien was “sensing some panic” from the passionate Canadiens fan base.

But he wasn’t sensing any in the dressing room.

“There’s no panic,” Therien said, per NHL.com. “Nobody’s panicking here. ... Bad games happen to every team. We’re very disappointed with what happened, and we’ve taken note of it.”

In case you missed it, the Canadiens were beaten 6-2 by the Flames. And deservedly so, given they were outshot by a margin of 36-20. On home ice, no less.

On top of that, it was Montreal’s third loss in four games, after starting the season 7-1-0.

To be sure, there was reason to believe the Habs’ winning ways were unsustainable. But to be so thoroughly dominated by a team that hasn’t made the playoffs since 2009 and ranks among the league’s worst in terms of possession?

That’s bound to rattle any fan base.

“We’re conscious of the passion of our fans,” said Therrien, “we’re conscious of a lot of things. But there’s a lot of parity in the league and every game is very difficult to win. So you have to be at your best every game to give yourself a chance to win. [Sunday], we were far from our best.”
