Devils to waive Clemmensen

The New Jersey Devils are set to put veteran goalie Scott Clemmensen on waivers today, per the Star-Ledger.

Clemmensen, 37, has played just two games this season, allowing four goals on 17 shots for a .765 save percentage and 6.49 GAA. Those numbers should be taken with a grain of salt, however, because Clemmensen hasn’t actually started at all this year — both of his appearances were of the relief variety, coming in for workhorse starter Cory Schneider.

Schneider has started all 11 games this year, sitting first in the NHL for TOI among goalies (637:01) and second in shots faced (331).

It’s unclear how the Devils will handle the backup position if Clemmensen clears waivers and goes to AHL Albany. They could bring up Keith Kinkaid — GM Lou Lamoriello was non-committal on that one — and we’re sure someone will make the suggestion of potentially re-signing Martin Brodeur.

But PHT will not be that someone.
