Zemgus Girgensons had the shootout winner as the Buffalo Sabres edged the visiting Detroit Red Wings 3-2 Sunday night.
The Red Wings thought they’d ended the game in overtime when Henrik Zetterberg beat Sabres’ starter Michal Neuvirth with a one-timer from the point. However, Johan Franzen made contact Neuvirth, which led to the goal being disallowed.
Babcock on disallowed goal in OT: “We were in the crease. Don’t be in the crease. It was a disallowed goal. Good call.”

Neuvirth was expecting the call given the way the night had gone.
“I was talking to the ref a couple times during the game and he said, he told me, ‘I know he’s standing in the crease so whenever they’re going to score a goal I’m going to disallow it,’” Neuvirth told NHL.com. “I was glad he actually did it.”
Brian Flynn and Chris Stewart had the Sabres regulation goals while Pavel Datsyuk and Tomas Tatar had the goals for the Wings.
Neuvirth made 36 saves for the win. Jimmy Howard stopped 18 shots in a losing cause.
