Despite buyout, Ehrhoff doesn’t wish this on Sabres

The Buffalo Sabres’ decision to buy out Christian Ehrhoff’s contract over the summer was surprising, but there’s no question it’s allowed the veteran defenseman to trade up. His new team, the Pittsburgh Penguins, cruised to a 5-0 victory against the Buffalo Sabres tonight.

That was just another day in the life of the 2014-15 Sabres. They’ve been shutout five times in their first 12 games and are a mere 2-9-1. Ehrhoff hasn’t taken any pleasure from watching the team that rejected him struggle though.

“I feel for the guys. It’s tough to see,” Ehrhoff told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

“You don’t want to see a team struggle like that, but that’s just part of the game. There’s teams that are going to be at the bottom. It’s just, it’s tough to watch from the outside.”

Ehrhoff has appreciated the fresh start that coming to Pittsburgh has afforded him. He has four assists, a plus-six rating and is averaging 21:01 minutes per contest through 10 games this season.
