Busy discipline day: Anton Volchenkov suspended four games

After a remarkably (maybe coincidentally?) quiet October, the NHL’s Department of Player Safety has been awfully busy lately. The latest verdict is a four-game suspension for Nashville Predators defenseman Anton Volchenkov’s hit on Calgary Flames forward Michael Ferland.

The league labels it “an illegal hit to the head.”

Update: here’s the explanation video for the hi, which left Ferland with a concussion:

Volchenkov, 35, has now been suspended three times in his NHL career.
