Kevin Westgarth is on his way to the EIHL.
That’s the Elite Ice Hockey League, a circuit in the United Kingdom that includes 10 teams, including Westgarth’s new club -- the Belfast Giants.
The Giants announced the signing on Thursday, confirming Westgarth -- who’s appeared in 169 NHL games with the Kings, Hurricanes and Flames -- would be joining the club, which currently employs another ex-NHLers in Ray Sawada.
Westgarth spent last season in Calgary and attended Edmonton’s training camp on a PTO, but failed to stick with the Oilers.
Last week, another veteran enforcer -- Paul Bissonnette -- was set to join a different EIHL club (the Cardiff Devils), only to later reach an agreement with Arizona’s AHL affiliate and stick in North America.
