Sharks forward John Scott spoke Tuesday for the first time since his two-game suspension for leaving the bench to fight Anaheim’s Tim Jackman... and in doing so, Scott just kept going after Jackman.

From CSN Bay Area’s Kevin Kurz:

John Scott on Tim Jackman: “I think it’s kind of gutless to go after a guy like [Vlasic] when you’re a tough guy.” #SJSharks

Scott continued: “Obviously I don’t condone me going after [Phil] Kessel, but those were different situations.” #SJSharks

“We obviously got up 3-0, 4-0, and they took liberties with our guys,” Scott added. “That’s where I come in, man-to-man with their tough guy and we settle it. That’s the way it’s supposed to be, the way it’s always been done and it didn’t quite work out that way.

"[The referees] should have taken care of it earlier when he went after [Vlasic]. They should have kicked him out of the game, but if the refs don’t take care of it, that’s kind of my job. I’ve got to stick up and do my job.”

Here’s the incident Scott’s referring to:

Jackman “went after” Vlasic following his fight with Scott early in the first period (see here). The decision to take on one of San Jose’s top defensemen apparently didn’t sit well with the 6-8 enforcer, as he proceeded to jump Jackman with about six minutes left in the game, resulting in the aforementioned suspension:

Anaheim captain Ryan Getzlaf tried to put things in perspective by saying both teams were frustrated, and there was no point in trying to assign blame.

“I’m not going to play the guilty thing here,” Getzlaf said, per the O.C. Register. “It wasn’t anything that that they did and we didn’t do back. That was both teams.

“Tensions run high and we dealt with them.”
