Hall of Famer Gordie Howe, 86, suffered a stroke on Sunday and is resting in his daughter’s house.

“Basically, sometime in the early morning on Sunday he suffered a pretty bad stroke,” his son, Dr. Murray Howe said, per the Detroit News.

“The right side of his body is very, very weak. He’s unable to stand without help. He’s able to speak, but very, very difficult to speak.”

The good news is that Gordie Howe still knows who he is and hasn’t forgotten the people around him. The family is trying to keep him comfortable in bed in light of his difficulty walking.

He underwent spinal surgery over the summer, but he was in good shape before the stroke.

Howe is remember as one of the hockey’s all-time greats. He had 801 goals and 1,850 points in 1,767 career NHL games. He was also known for his longevity, entering the NHL during the 1946-47 campaign and retiring after spending the 1979-80 season with the Hartford Whalers.
