If nothing else, the 2014-15 Vancouver Canucks don’t seem to get derailed after big losses. Dallas cruised to a 6-3 win against them on Tuesday, but the Canucks beat St. Louis 4-1 on Thursday; Colorado earned a 7-3 victory over Vancouver Friday, but the Canucks bounced back with a 4-2 win over Washington tonight.

Vancouver cleanly outshot the Capitals by a margin of 34-22. That might not have been a remarkable feat against the Capitals last season when they allowed an average of 33.5 shots per game, but this is the first time they’ve surrendered 30 or more shots since Barry Trotz took over as the team’s head coach. However, it was one 1:47 minute stretch in the second period that proved to be the difference in this contest.

Henrik Sedin, Nick Bonino, and Luca Sbisa all scored within that span to erase the Capitals’ early 1-0 lead:

Washington forward Liam O’Brien scored his first NHL goal before the second intermission, but it wasn’t enough to save the Capitals.

After no Vancouver player finished with more than 50 points last season, both Sedin twins and Radim Vrbata have all reached or surpassed the 10-point mark after just eight contests under new head coach Willie Desjardins.
