Ailing Jackets put Calvert (upper body) on IR

The Columbus Blue Jackets lost the services of yet another forward on Monday, announcing that winger Matt Calvert had been placed on injured reserve with an upper-body ailment.

Calvert, 24, was placed on IR retroactively to Oct. 24 and is expected to miss at least one week; in his place, rookie Alex Wenneberg was called up from AHL Springfield.

The injury is, as mentioned above, just the latest to hit Columbus. The team is already without the services of Nathan Horton (back) and Boone Jenner (broken hand); the club also lost forward Nick Foligno on Sunday after a scary collision against L.A., one that saw him get stretchered off with a neck injury.

#CBJ Nick Foligno called his injury a “stinger.” Had MRI this morning, hoping to be cleared to play on Tuesday vs. #Sens.

Foligno said he lost feeling in limbs on right side after collision yesterday. Scary, he said, but feeling came back while on ice. #CBJ

Another Blue Jackets forward, Cam Atkinson, narrowly avoided a catastrophic injury over the weekend after taking Ryan Kesler’s skate to the face against Anaheim.

Update: As savvy commenter Vez79 pointed out below, the Jackets are also currently without Brandon Dubinsky, who is on IR following abdominal surgery earlier this month.
