The Colorado Avalanche (1-4-2) will have their star goalie, Semyon Varlamov, back in goal tomorrow versus visiting Vancouver, head coach Patrick Roy confirmed today. The team announced that he was taken off IR.
Varlamov hasn’t played since Oct. 14, when he stopped 37 of 40 Toronto shots in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Maple Leafs. He’s missed the last three Colorado games — two regulation losses and an OT loss — with a groin injury.
Tomorrow is a big game for the Avs, who’ve won just once in their first seven outings. Not only are they in desperate need of points, given they sit last in the Western Conference standings, their opponents, the Canucks, could very well be one of the teams they’ll need to beat out in order to make the playoffs.
“Things feel good,” Varlamov said, per the Denver Post.
Avs fans just wish they could say the same thing about watching their struggling team, which currently ranks 28th in goals-scored and 26th in goals-against.
