Subban on penalties: I haven’t set a good example

Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban scored twice last night to lead Montreal to a 3-2 victory over Colorado, but that doesn’t mean he did everything right. Subban was sent to the sin bin for holding late in the second period and while his teammates killed the penalty, he doesn’t like that he put them in that situation.

“I was upset that I took a stupid penalty,” said Subban, per the Montreal Gazette. He atoned by finding the back of the net mere seconds after his release. Still, he doesn’t feel like that bad penalty was an isolated incident.

“If you’re going to be a leader on the team you’ve got to set the example. I haven’t done a good job of that,” Subban said in reference to his penalties, according to Dave Stubbs.

Subban has never been one to stay out of trouble. He has accumulated 397 penalty minutes in 200 career games, including 14 in his first six contests this season.

He’s taken a penalty in five straight contests, which surpasses his 2013-14 high of four consecutive games.
