Dan Hamhuis took a stick to the face and was cut open, with blood dripping on the ice as he went to the dressing room during the second period of Friday’s game between the Vancouver Canucks and Edmonton Oilers.
There was no call on the play, as an Oilers’ player lost their balance and caught Hamhuis around the nose.
Hamhuis went to the dressing room for repairs but returned before the end of the period, wearing a full face mask. Hamhuis was then called for delay of game for shooting the puck over the glass in his first shift back.
The Canucks were briefly down to four defenseman for a time in the second period. Hamhuis left temporarily, and Ryan Stanton left the game for good with what is believed to be a lower-body injury.
