Winless in first three, Flyers to face seven straight playoff teams

For the rest of the month, this is what’s facing the winless Philadelphia Flyers:

So, yeah…tough slate of games right there.

Cause for optimism? Anaheim played last night in Buffalo, so it’s feasible the Flyers may get a tired opponent tonight.

Though on the other hand, it’s not like the Sabres put up much of a fight last night. So, um, maybe the Flyers will get an overconfident opponent?

Whatever. The Flyers just need a win.

“Just from a mental standpoint, getting a win [is important],” coach Craig Berube said, per CSN Philly. “They just need to worry about the process, and worry about competing and skating. Worry about the process, and good things will happen if you do that.

“Stay focused for 60 minutes. The other night, we didn’t stay focused for 60 minutes. We stayed focused for 40. Had a good game going and we didn’t focus long enough, didn’t stay with it.”

He’s right — they didn’t stay with it. Instead they blew a 3-0 lead and lost 4-3 in a shootout to Montreal, dropping their record to 0-2-1.

It’s not impossible to overcome a slow start to an 82-game schedule. Case in point, the Flyers began last season 1-7-0 and still made the playoffs.

But that’s playing with fire. Do it enough and you’ll get burned.
