Subban to Stamkos: Enjoy hat trick, it won’t happen next time

The Montreal Canadiens were handed a humbling 7-1 loss by the Tampa Bay Lightning on Monday, but defenseman P.K. Subban wasn’t discouraged.

“We had some quality scoring chances, we just didn’t put the puck in the net. ... At the end of the day, we’re still coming together ... we know how we want to play, but it takes time for those things to come together,” Subban said in his postgame press conference.

It’s not hard to see why Subban isn’t pushing the panic button yet. Although Montreal hasn’t been winning decisively so far this season, Monday’s contest was still its first loss of the season.

That being said, Subban did have a specific message for Stamkos, who had a hat trick.

“I’d tell Steven to enjoy it, because the next time it’s not going to happen,” Subban said.

Stamkos had two goals and four points against Montreal in the Canadiens’ four-game sweep of Tampa Bay in the 2014 playoffs.
