Maroon hurt on low Gorges hit

Anaheim forward Patrick Maroon has suffered a lower-body injury and will not return to the Ducks-Sabres game currently being played in Buffalo.

Maroon was hurt in the second period on a low hit by Sabres defenseman Josh Gorges...

...and had to be helped off the ice.

We’ll pass along an update on Maroon’s condition when we can.

It’s hard to see any supplementary discipline arising from the hit. Gorges, who has never been suspended, was not penalized for the play.

The NHL has suspended players for injury-causing low hits before. In 2012, Boston’s Brad Marchand was banned five games for a “predatory low hit delivered intentionally” to Vancouver’s Sami Salo.
