Adirondack Flames forward Trevor Gillies, 35, knows what he did to Rochester Americans rookie William Carrier was wrong and now he’ll pay for it. The American Hockey League has suspended him for 12 games for his actions on Friday.

If you missed it, Gillies got into a fight with Carrier and quickly gained the upper hand. He continued to land punches on Carrier as the 19-year-old fell to his knees. As the referee moved in to break up the fight, Gillies grabbed Carrier and slammed his head into the ice.

Gillies has since apologized “for embarrassing the family name.”

“If you want to bash me I get it,” Gillies added. “I will just take my medicine with no response. Again I’m truly sorry.”

He has 261 career penalty minutes in 57 NHL games.
