Not too long ago there were reports that the Philadelphia Flyers were looking to trade a defenseman to make room for top prospect Samuel Morin on their opening game roster. Flyers GM Ron Hextall shot down those rumors and returned Morin to QMJHL Rimouski shortly afterwards.

That decision will provide the 19-year-old defenseman with additional time to develop before he’s asked to make the leap to the NHL. Unfortunately he’s run into some bad luck though.

Morin was struck in the face by a slap shot tonight and has a fractured jaw, per the Flyers’ site. He’ll undergo surgery tomorrow.

You can see the incident below:

Morin was taken with the 11th overall pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. He has three assists in five games with Rimouski this season.
