Video: Boychuk trade already paying off for Islanders

Boychuk

Well that didn’t take long.

The New York Islanders acquired defenseman Johnny Boychuk from the Boston Bruins in exchange for two second-round picks and a conditional third rounder on Saturday and he’s already making his presence felt.

While playing against the Carolina Hurricanes, Boychuk scored the Islanders’ first goal of the season on a one-timer at 17:06 of the first period. You can watch that below:

Boychuk also earned an assist as the Islanders entered the first intermission with a 2-0 lead. Of course, the 30-year-old defenseman wasn’t acquired primarily to chip in offensively. He logged a team-high 8:09 minutes in the first period and was leaned on heavily when the Islanders had to kill a penalty early in the frame.
